Jessica Barthel

Jessica joined the Office of Sustainability at UNC Charlotte in 2023. She graduated from Roanoke College
in 2019 with a BS in Environmental Science and Economics and is looking to further her education by
getting a masters at UNC Charlotte in sustainability. She has previously conducted research on plastic
pollution at Roanoke College and implemented a plastic film recycling program. Prior to joining our
team, Jessica worked as a water resources scientist for a national engineering and consulting company
focused on inspecting stormwater systems. When she’s not working, Jessica enjoys getting outside, playing pickleball, and doing puzzles.

The Education Coordinator provides coordination of educational programs for the campus community
related to achieving the sustainability goals with primary focus on supporting faculty and staff. They
support sustainability integration into curriculum, support the use of campus as a learning laboratory,
and support staff seeking to improve their operations.
